The spring Festival Gala Show, formerly known as the CCTV New Year’s Gala or Chunwan (春
晚), is broadcast annually on the Chinese New Year's Eve on its flagship CCTV-1 and other
medias.
It has been one of the rituals for many Chinese families on CNY eve. It’s a variety show, including
music, dance, comedy, and drama performances etc. By watching the show, you will not only get
to know the popular trendency, but have a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture.
After the Chunwun this year, people are discussing some of the main programs as below.
1. Opening Visual Show: Welcoming Fortune
This program showcases traditional craftsmanship such as firework iron flowers and papercutting, highlighting the festive customs from across the country. It conveys wishes for good fortune through a blend of traditional arts and modern technology, creating a vibrant festive atmosphere.
Among the 16 Intangible cultural heritage performances, Li Ziqi's segment was particularly captivating, as she showcased traditional Chinese culture through her unique style, presenting handcrafted arts, cooking, and life scenes that highlight the rich heritage of Chinese customs.

2. Traditional Architecture Performance:Pillars of Strength
Set against the backdrop of Beijing's central axis achieving UNESCO World Heritage status, this program uses 3D architectural models and high-definition production techniques to showcase the beauty and cultural significance of ancient Chinese architecture, immersing the audience in a millennium of architectural charm.

3. Martial Arts Performance: Writing with Dragon and Snake
Based on Tai Chi, this program combines the art of calligraphy with Li Bai's poem "Song of the Grass," demonstrating the strength and beauty of both calligraphy and martial arts, reflecting the deep connection between these traditional cultural forms

4. Magic Show: Adding Fortune to the Snake
This program incorporates traditional magic elements, revealing the mystery and fun inherent in Chinese traditional culture.

5. Chorus: Counting stars
Besides, the American pop/rock band OneRepublic performed their chart-topping song Counting Stars at Yellow Crane Tower in Wuhan, Hubei province, during the 2025 Chinese Spring Festival Gala. Their performance won praise, with comments highlighting the blend of Eastern and Western cultures and the spectacular view of the venue.

Apart from these, The Robot Dance Show is a spectacular highlight of the gala. In this segment, advanced robots perform execute complex movements flawlessly, perfectly timed to upbeat music.The performance integrates traditional Chinese cultural elements, celebrating themes of unity and progress.
